I am very blessed to be able to make a living doing something I love. Consequently, collecting a fee is not my primary focus. When you hire me for your project you can be certain that quality never takes a backseat to quantity.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
The most difficult aspect of being a freelance writer, editor, proofreader, and researcher has absolutely nothing to do with writing, editing, proofreading, or researching. The thing I struggle with the most is asking people to pay me for doing something I love.
I have chosen to deal with this difficulty by developing a formula for determining my fee for a project. This allows me to quote a fair and consistent price for my work and takes a lot of the subjectivity out of the process. However, I view this as more of a guideline than a set-in-stone policy and I try to maintain flexibility while also adhering to the principle of the process.
The bottom line is I do not think of a project as a “paycheck.” Many businesspeople put their focus on making money and I feel that is why our economy is in the shape it is. I am a full-time freelancer and this is how I earn my living. However, I am far more concerned about completing a job to my client’s satisfaction than I am about collecting money from them.
Obeying the above verse from Matthew’s gospel is not always easy, especially when the mortgage is due and the electric bill keeps rising. I know this is the case for many (if not all) Christians. As with most matters of faith, the best answer is prayer. If we focus on God and not our checkbook He will provide and do so abundantly (Malachi 3:10).
